Essex Realty Donates to CPS for 30th Anniversary

Over the past three decades, RPBG Director Doug Imber has grown Essex Realty Group, Inc. from a fledgling brokerage business into one of the region’s premier mid-market investment sales companies. Then as now, Essex Realty has always had a strong focus on apartment product, particularly the small to medium sized buildings that can be found in nearly every Chicago neighborhood and that provide so much of the rental housing where many Chicagoans live.

The company’s steady rise to prominence in the Chicago market is a testament to the hard work, business acumen and high level of customer service that has always been a hallmark of Essex. Another key element of the company’s success is the reputation it has established for fairness and honesty. These values are fundamental to the company and its founder.

Thus, it comes as no great surprise that Doug and his team are choosing to recognize the achievement of 30 years in business, not with a big blow-out bash for clients and associates – something that might have been a good idea before COVID – but with a gesture more appropriate to the current moment. The Essex team has announced that they are donating $30,000 to Chicago Public Schools to purchase iPads for underprivileged kids – $1,000 for every year the company has been in business.

In an email to clients, friends and other real estate industry associates, Doug and his team laid out their thoughts about doing something to recognize the years of success the business has enjoyed while still acknowledging that this anniversary is happening at a difficult time in our history. After pondering options, the team decided to give back to the city that has given so much to them. Perhaps taking some inspiration from Rogers Park Builders Group and our focus on supporting local schools, the Essex team decided to make a gift to CPS, benefitting the many students who are struggling to keep up with their studies during these uniquely challenging times.

In today’s pandemic world, iPads for students is not just a “nice to have” item. For now and the foreseeable future, CPS will remain in remote teaching mode, a decision made to help protect students and staff from the ravages of the pandemic, and to help prevent its further spread. For as long as remote learning continues, getting iPads into the hands of CPS students will remain a top priority, and a “need to have” requirement to ensure the continued ability of CPS to help the children of Chicago keep their educations on track.

Essex’s generous gift on behalf of its 30th anniversary will make it just a little easier for more needy students to get the tools they need to accomplish this goal. We applaud Doug and the entire Essex team for this exemplary action and congratulate them all on the success of Essex Realty.
